The Hanna Project

Since my daughter was born, I've been completely captivated by her. I can't seem to get enough of watching her look around the room gazing at random objects, making funny noises, crying, occassionally flailing her arms and legs around, and sleeping...lots of that. If you're a parent, then I guess you understand.

One thing I've realized as I've watched friends' babies grow over their first couple of months is how fast they change. So, for that reason, I'm taking an idea that a friend, Dave Rytell, mentioned in a blog article that he wrote for Sensory Escape Images titled, "New Parents Don't Be Caught Empty Handed - Remember Your Camera."

The idea is to photograph Hanna once every day. This way I can create a memory of her as I document her changes throughout the weeks and months to come. Because taking a picture every day requires quite a bit of discipline and work, I'm going to avoid taking anything but casual, photojournalistic style images...just as she is. Occassionally I'll slip in a posed shot since I'll be shooting lots of those as well.

I'll probably be updating this page weekly. The image sequence starts on her birthday and continues through to whatever day I've updated to. I'll indicate that date in italics immediately below for anyone wishing to check back and enjoy this process with us throughout the weeks and months to come.

The images start with birth and work in chronological order.
