Canon Powershot A1100 IS

Today I'm blogging about a point-and-shoot camera that I'm recommending. It is the Canon Powershot A1100 IS. The "IS" in the name stands for Image Stabilizer which was a feature previously only offered on professional grade dSLR lenses. This feature automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. This camera has 12.1 megapixels (which is huge) and a better focal length range (35mm - 140mm) than most point and shoots, professional-grade included. What I like best though is that it shoots fast at 2 fps or frames per second. That means that every second you can take up to 2 whole images. Most point and shoots only get up to .8 fps. That's a huge difference. Slow shutter speeds is one thing that people complain about most with point and shoots but won't be a problem with this one for sure. This is a great idea for a Christmas gift!

Sample Images:

Specs
-12.1 Megapixels
-4x Optical Zoom - that's a 35-140mm zoom range in 35mm terms.
-2.5 inch LCD - could be bigger but I'd never turn down a camera model for a slightly smaller LCD
-Nice ISO range: 80-1600
-Continuous Shooting 2fps (This is the big winner for the A1100 IS!)
-Shooting Modes: Auto, Easy, P, Portrait, Landscape, Special Scene (Night Scene, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Fireworks, Aquarium, ISO 3200, Long Shutter), Indoor, Kids & Pets, Night Snapshot, Movie
-Image Stabilizer
- 4 color options: Grey, Pink, Green and Blue

Amazon is selling this model for $129 currently:

B&H; Photo has it for sale as well:
Camera $129.99
Camera + Basic Accessory Kit $182.84
Camera + Deluxe Accessory Kit $225.78

I recommend using AA-size Ni-MH Batteries instead of AA-size Alkaline Batteries because you'll double your camera usage on a single set of batteries.
